The College of Medical Science and Technology is a leading institution for students who have demonstrated the excellence in academics. A proactive attitude and technical mastery of crucial skills and technology are nurtured, as the college aims to develop a strong fundamental understanding and sophisticated thoughts of the medical and physical sciences in all the graduates, in order to prepare their entrance to high-skill top world class institutions.

The College, working in cooperation with the Academia Sinica and National Health Research Institutes, both the best health research institutions Asia has developed Ph.D. programs for Cancer Biology and Drug Discovery, and the Neural Regenerative Medicine. These Ph.D. programs are led by best professors and academicians in Taiwan, whose cutting-edge research has had profound effects on their respective fields.
School of Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology
Chair: Yu-Chih Liang, Ph.D.

The School of Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology offers a traditional four-year undergraduate program, a two-year Master program, and a part-time Master program for professionals who must fit their studies around a busy work schedule. The School prepares students to become qualified, world-class technologists who will one day be important facets in the development and improvement of laboratory medicine.

Ph.D. Program for Neural Regenerative Medicine
Director: Yung-Hsiao Chiang, M.D., Ph.D.

The Ph.D. Program for Neural Regenerative Medicine in TMU is a Ph.D. education program designed for training top researchers in neuroscience field– neuroregeneration specially. Our main courses including basic and clinical neuroscience, stem cell biology, neuroregenerative medicine, biomaterials, bioinformatics and related courses are open for students. This program seeks to
investigate the physiology and pathology mechanisms of central nerve system damages (like mild traumatic brain injury, mTBI, and stroke) and neurodegenerationdiseases (such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and Huntington’s disease). The possible therapy and drug treatment strategies in clinical medicines are our goals. This program is conducted by TMU (Taipei Medical University) and NHRI (National Health Research Institute) and is the first Ph.D. program major in neuroregeneration in Taiwan.

Ph.D. Program for Cancer Biology and Drug Discovery
Director: Ya-Wen Cheng, Ph.D

The Ph.D. Program for Cancer Biology and Drug Discovery is a joint program with Academia Sinica established in 2010 (enrollment available in Fall, 2011). The first contributor is Jacqueline Whang-Peng M.D.,Ph.D. The program is vigorously engaged in cancer biology and drug discovery teaching, training, research, and application. It has support from the College of Medical Science and Technology and the University Hospital for access to basic medical knowledge, medical information, and clinical experience. The institute comprises two tracks: the Cancer Biology Track and the Drug Discovery Track. The first track does research on topics such as those related to molecular mechanism of tumorigenesis, cancer prevention, treatment, prognosis, and the invention of and new cures. The second track is devoted mainly to cancer drug development. Our goal is to integrate the research of cancer biology and drug discovery to have contribution in cancer research and therapy.

Ph.D. Program for Translational Medicine
Director: Wei-Chung Vivian Yang, Ph.D.
This Ph.D. program is a joint program with Academia Sinica.
In this program, we combine expertise from various fields including molecular biology, cancer biology, proteomic and structural biology, and focus on the discovery and development of clinical biomarkers for oncology, neuroscience, reproductive medicine, stem cell and regenerative medicine. By translating the results of bench-side research into bedside treatments, we look forward to enhancing Taiwan's competitiveness in bio-pharmaceutical research, as well as improving the quality of clinical diagnosis and medical care.
