International student and apprenticeship programs

 To apply for an internship or lab research:

  • Applicants need to be current students or graduates from an university or an equivalent institute in another country.
  • All submitted materials must be written in English or Chinese.
  • Two programs are : 1.course program and 2.apprenticeship program are provided for foreign applicants to apply.
  • Applicants are strongly recommended to acquire Chinese or English speaking and listening ability before the program begins. If you need an interpreter, a fee must be paid.
  • Applicants need to provide health records and current immunization records in addition to proof of personal health/accident insurance with overseas coverage, or proof of national health insurance.
  • Dormitory vacancies (vary by season) and housing (rent fee is NT$1,000 or 1,500 for a small or large room per night) are limited. All other applicants need to find accommodation by themselves.
  • For safety reasons, students are strictly prohibited from making any clinical decisions or physician behavior; including inquiring or touching the patient, diagnosing or giving advise on any medical issues during the program span, even if the applicant holds a medical doctor license in a foreign country.
  • Students must choose from TMU's affiliated hospitals for apprenticeship. Details on Taipei Medical University Hospital, Wan Fang Hospital, and Shuangho Hospital can be found on the websites.

1. Applicants complete application form. (2 weeks) 
2. Applicants send or email application form and required documents to International Office, Taipei Medical University. (2 weeks)
3. Evaluation Committee meeting starts. (2 weeks) 
4. TMU sends out notification letter to applicants.(2 weeks)
5. Registration. (2 weeks)

Materials Required for Application

  • Application form
  • Copy of valid passport
  • Copy of valid student ID or working badge (copy both sides if necessary)
  • Official transcripts from all universities attended
  • Copy of health record, including physical examination items with current immunizations valid for three months
  • Copy of personal health and accident insurance or national health insurance that provides coverage for the entire stay in Taiwan
  • Statement of Intent (four to six pages in A4 size)
  • For degree program applicants, one recommendation letter from the professor/lecturer who is familiar with the applicant’s academic performance. Apprenticeship applicants send one recommendation letter from the dean of the medical school or director of the department the applicant belongs to at the hospital, or from a school supervisor who is familiar with the applicant’s medical performance.
  • Health check
  • Photo file can be jpg, bmp, or tiff file. Your photos must satisfy the following requirements:
    • Full face, front view with a plain white background
    • Taken within the last 3 months
    • Color photos
    • No hats or head coverings except for religious reasons
    • No composite photos
    • No dark glasses or glasses with tinted lenses unless it is for medical reasons

Fees

Program fee varies according to the fee policy of the applied affiliation. Apprentice pay US$150 per week (except for exchange students from the SCOPE program if fee is waived). The fee is calculated on a weekly basis; for example, if the exchange student comes on a month-long program, he or she would be charged for each of the month’s 5 weeks. The fee is unrefundable after registration or after the program has started.

Deadline
Application materials need to be received by the Admission's Office at least two months prior to the starting date.

Attendance and absence

Although students and apprentices must attend scheduled courses or meetings. In case of sickness or accident, they can ask for leave according to the absence policy of the applied affiliation.

Certification

Students and apprentices will receive a certificate issued by the hospital or school after finishing all study/training courses.
